I just started working at Kmart about a month ago. Since my pay is direct deposit, what time (on payday, like today) does my money show on my checking account? I'm not sure if it varies by banks. But it would give me an idea.

A sad loss

I don't know if any of you are from Ohio, however if you are and have been with the company for a while you may know the name Jim Venet.  He was an Assistant Manager at the Massillon, Ohio (4169) store.  He left of a medical leave, and will unfortunetly never be returning.  He passed away yesterday morning, from cancer.  He will be greatly missed, and was truly one of a kind, quite possibly one of the best managers this company has ever seen.
Our District Manager has asked all stores in the area to send help so that anybody who know him can be off work in order to go to calling hours and/or the funeral, and finding the people to do it will be difficult, anybody who met him even once was touched by his extreme kindness and want to attend.
In loving Memory of James "Jim" A. Venet, may you rest in piece and no you will be forever loved and missed.

KMart First-Timer

Hello all! I hope you're still around. :)

I've just been hired PT by a FL KMart that is apparently getting a "makeover" and will be attending orientation next week. I know nothing of the store culture and have yet to even buy something there.
What are some of your best and worst experiences working at or shopping at KMart?
Are your stores also getting makeovers? What did that entail and would you consider it effective?

I'll be in customer-service (oh boy!) and will be using the job to help pay for school and tide me over until I get my EMT-B certification so I can ride around in ambulances or work in the ER all day. Still minimum wage but alot more exciting.
Sorry, KMart, I will be cheating on you.

Hey, everyone. I'm posting here because I'm worried about my job, at the moment.

I just started working at KMart on April 10th of this year. My money has always been right at the end of the day.

But today, it was about $20 under what it should have been.

I'm worried that I'll get fired. What's the normal policy for being that much under? And what's the policy for being that much under when you've only worked there a little over a month?

I really need my job. :( Anyone who has experienced this before, or who is a manager, please let me know. I have to wait until tomorrow to find out, sigh.

march of insurance

I have worked at Kmart for over a year, I finally got lead of footwear and expeted to get insurance just as medicare is getting ready to throw me off.  Well, Kmart works me like a dog for 40 hours, but calls me "part time" and refuses me (and everyone else) insurance.  They fired the eight associates who did have full time and insurance on the same day.  And K mart has the Nerve to demand that we beg spare change for March of Dimes.  Well if companys like Kmart offered insurance people wouldnt NEED March of Dimes!  Screw Kmart, I'll go elsewhere to work, but as I leave the shoe department is perfectly straighted out for the first time in a week, and not one box of shoes makes a pair.  It took me over two months to straighten out the department, and it looked great, but the piggy customers tore it up on my three days off last week, and while I looked to be doing a repair job tonight, in a few days they will have to pay hundreds  of manhours to repair the mixed shoes, and the utter destruction that their customers will unleash while they hunt in vein for matching shoes.  When I think of all the lost sales, I have to wonder, wouldnt' it have been much cheaper to give me insurance?

Kmart closing?

My mum and I were at Kmart today, and after she left, she asked me if the store was closing.

I've not heard that my particular location is, but she pointed out some things that I don't really pay much notice to at work, which kind of makes me think that perhaps the store I work at might close in the next few months:

1) There's a whole lot on clearance. Granted, it's the end of summer and a lot of clothes are on clearance, but I saw a few racks full of sweaters and jeans on clearance as well. There's massive clearance racks in every department...whole aisles solely devoted to clearance items. Furthermore, I'm not sure about any other location, but we're having a 50% off sale on clearance clothes and 30% off sale on every other clearance item.

2) With all the clearance aisles, there is a lack of seasonal/holiday items. The only Halloween stuff my location has is the bagged candy. There aren't any costumes, no candy pails for the kids, no decorations. I would assume that if there wasn't to be much Halloween stuff, there would be more autumn and Christmas/winter stuff, but....there isn't. No Christmas stuff is out yet. (Understandable...the only place in Roanoke I've seen Christmas stuff in is Dollar Tree, but they make most of their money on Christmas stuff, but I digress.) The seasonal area in my store only has a few boxes of random framed art, most seeming like springtime stuff, and the bagged Halloween candy. There's still a few aisles of back-to-school stuff they're trying to sell, but it's massively disorganised (as is most of our store, actually).

3) Most of domestics and housewares consist of empty shelves. I'm not sure if those aisles were for clearance stuff, but I didn't see any clearance signs/stickers/tags anywhere near these aisles. The only bath towels I saw were Martha Stewart towels on the back "wall" of domestics and one aisle of Essential Home towels, which is randomly piled.

4) All the signage looks old (one of the Garden Shoppe entrance signs is from probably the late 1970s or early 1980s), the floor is coming up in places, and the parking lot is, at best, atrocious. The garden shoppe wasn't even open most of the summer, and our AC was either out or barely working all summer. We won't even go into the condition of the public restrooms, and they have been disgusting for years. In my store, there are only three fully functioning registers out of nine available; all the rest have something broken. There are only three hand scanners, and the stands that the plastic bags hang on have no rubber ends anymore, which are beyond unsafe. (I nearly cut myself on one last weekend, and I have a large, deep bruise from it.)

5) There are very few employees left, cashiers anyway. Most weekends, we have two or three cashiers at any given time, and most weekdays, there are one or two. The Little Caesars cafe that used to be in the front of the store was removed a few years ago as well. I haven't seen much effort into hiring people as there aren't any new people, and I'm asked to stay late every weekend.

Has anyone heard of any more Kmart stores closing?

Sears Credit Card Applications

Jul. 26th, 2007 | 07:11 pm

Okay  I've worked at Kmart for quite a while now, and our supervisors have always been pushing for cashiers to sell smart plans and do more Sears Credit Card applications. I will not lie most of our cashiers do not ask  "May I put this on your Sears Credit Card today?" while ringing people up...which may have something to do with our Sears applications being so low. I however ask every customer that comes through my line (as it is my luck that if I don't it happens to turn out my manager is right behind me breathing down my neck waiting to yell), but today our managers gave notice slips to us stating that if  we do not get at least ONE sears credit card application processed and ONE smart plan sold by the end of the week we get a "verbal interview", then a the next day if still nothing "written notice" and then fired if by the end of the month we have none. (Did I mention all the cashiers are only working about 4 hour shifts right now and maybe maximum 4 days a week?)

I do plenty of Smart Plans, but NO ONE wants a credit card with what 32.19% APR financing?????  I've given up on asking if they'd like to use their Sears card and now go straight for "Would you like to apply for a sears credit card today and receive a free gift" (our store gives away gifts...which happens to be a 2 liter bottle of pop...wooo what a gift.) Still I get all "No" answers, it's not my fault that someone doesn't want a horrible credit card, I cant exactly shove it down their throat and say that they will apply for it.

My question would be is this threat of theirs even legal? What if I do happen to be fired over this issue??

Does anybody know what the commission rates are for selling SMART Plans? Such as how much commission is made for selling a $19.99 Smart Plan, are there charts for it or something?
