Employee Discounts?

Recently, Kmart has repealed its associate discount privelege with the exception of purchases made using the following methods:
~ cash
~ checks
~ SEARS card

I have no idea why this is, but I have some feeling it's to do with corporate and the penny-pinchers there. Has this happened at any of the stores you folks work at? What do you think of it?

I get the feeling that if this were happening, it would be corporate wide, and I haven't heard anything about it at my store (although I'll be leaving in two weeks, thank god, but I work with the managers, in the office, or at the service desk, so I think they'd mention it to me)plus, it seems a little unethical. People who retire from Kmart receive thousands and thousands of dollars in one lump sum check, maybe they should review that before they discontinue discounts in any way.

I haven't heard that, and I used it Saturday with my debit card.

It would work with a debit card, because a debit card is equivalent to cash.

I noticed it happening this weekend. Hubby and I went into a Kmart in our hometown on Friday and we couldn't even use his check card with the discount! We went into a different store tonight and it happened again. I don't understand how they can do this without any prior warning and we're pretty pissed off.

I haven't heard anything about it at my store, and I work in the office so I get messages about software updates and stuff. You'd think something like this would affect every store.

The reason probably lies in the following:

Those not familiar with how Credit cards work...

MC, Discover, Visa, or AMEX all charge the store for their customers to use the credit card. Some of these charges are very high...up to 7% of the total purchase price. (Credit card companies dont' just make money from the interest and annual fees they charge you, the consumer)

So, it becomes even more expensive to the company to offer a discount plus pay the fee to the credit card company.

When you pay with cash, check, or the company credit card, the store isn't charged additional fees.

Target has the same policy.

A Debit card is different than a credit card. Debit cards come straight out of your bank account and have no interest rate.
Considering that the people above were talking about debit cards and not credit cards, I think you may need to get your information right and stop trying to act like you know everything.

WHY KMART GIVE RAISE ONLY A SOME EMPLOYEES. THE STORE MANAGER DENIED THE OPPORTUNITY TO OLD EMPLOYEES FOR NEW POSITIONS INTO THE STORE.

THE SALES MANAGER HE DOESN'T HAVE GOOD RELATION WITH THE EMPLOYEES,
HE BELIEVES THAT IS SUPERIOR TO ANY ONE.

THIS YEAR KMART GIVE RISE TO SOME EMPLOYEES, BUT NO AT ALL. WHY THIS DESCRIMINATION.
